NCC advances to 2nd Round of Tribune Tournament once again.

1/11/17 Warkentin nets 17 in victory.

WELLAND, Ont. - (January 11, 2017) – The NCC Sr. boys basketball team fought back, after a slow start, to take down the Eagles of Thorold SS in the opening round the Welland Tribune Tournament. After trailing the entire first quarter the NAVS' slowly chipped away at the Eagles lead and managed to go up 23-18 at the break. A strong third quarter that saw NCC outscore Thorold 16-4 would be enough to secure the 44-38 victory.

The Turning Point
A 16-6 second quarter run inspired by hard-nosed defense and 8-points from senior captain Brett Warkentin. With just 1:36 seconds left on the clock in the second the NAVS stole the ball and in a unselfish play, senior guard Mike Sutherland dropped a no-look pass over his shoulder to Warkentin who calmly laid it in and the NAV train never looked back.

Notables
* Brett Warkentin scored 17 points to lead the Navs.
* Solomon Ebata pulled down a game-high 7 offensive rebounds.
* Mike Sutherland shot 4-9, good for 10 points.

“The boys (NCC) were off to a sluggish start after a  great home victory last night. We stuck together and got the job done on defense leading to turnaround baskets. Sometimes you just have to win ugly and tonight we showed that"
